El Nino Is Here!

On January 7, 2016

El Nino has finally sit Lake Elsinore and we are definitely feeling it. Here’s a few tips to help you get through this especially wet season. It might be nice for us Sunny Californians to be experiencing some good rainfall for once, especially because there had been a drought for so long, but be careful! Flash flooding is no joke.

Agriculture is one of the main sectors of the economy that could be severely affected by the El Niño phenomenon. While drought is the main threat to food production, El Niño can also cause heavy rains, flooding or extremely hot or cold weather. This can lead to animal disease outbreaks, including zoonosis and food-borne diseases, as well as plant pests and forest fires

For those of you who live on or close to a hill be weary of mudslides, since land that has been burned is more susceptible to mudslides.

What are you doing to prepare/protect yourself and your property against flash flooding?
